Malaya Movement USA condemns the targeted, “permanent ban” Fides Lim by BuCor

Malaya Movement USA condemns the targeted, “permanent ban” of longtime political prisoner and human rights advocate Fides Lim issued by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), preventing her from visiting Philippine prisons and jails.

Lim has spent the better part of her life fighting for the rights, welfare, and freedom of unjustly detained political prisoners, including her husband Vicente Ladlad, a peace consultant. We denounce this discriminatory and baldly anti-democratic  move by BuCor chief Gregorio Catapang Jr against Lim. It is clearly an attempt to silence her and Kapatid, an organization of families and friends of political prisoners. Despite numerous attempts for dialogue, BuCor has refused, showing their negligence and indifference to the concerns raised by Kapatid. 

We echo the demands for Congress and the Department of Justice to immediately conduct an investigation into the rights abuses by BuCor.
