Jersey City—On the evening of Wednesday, December 15, Jersey City's Municipal Council unanimously passed the Resolution Protecting Jersey City Human Rights Defenders for the Philippines and Endorsing the Philippine Human Rights Act (Resolution 21-866). Jersey City is now the first city on the East Coast to have endorsed the Philippine Human Rights Act and the first in the country to extend protections for human rights defenders who may be targeted by the Philippine government.

Malaya Movement USA welcomes the decision of the Supreme Court to strike down portions of the detested Anti-Terror Law. While they see this as a partial victory, activists say the law remains a “threat to civil and political rights of Filipinos in the hands of the Duterte regime.”

On Dec 9 & 10, the Biden administration is hosting the Summit for Democracy to "defend against authoritarianism, fight corruption, and promote respect for human rights." Its aim, ostensibly, is to bring together world leaders to talk about democracy and human rights.
