Rodrigo Duterte must stand trial at the International Criminal Court. The victims of extrajudicial killings and their families deserve justice.
Today, on April 22, the Appeals Chamber will announce if Duterte will stand trial at the ICC.
It has been 60 days since the pretrial hearing, where overwhelming evidence from 539 victims exposed the structure of power and climate of impunity that Duterte and his co-perpetrators created through the brutal drug war.
As a human rights organization, Malaya Movement has always stood on the side of the EJK victims and families, who continue to inspire the world with their courage.
Duterte’s paltry legal defense trivialized the victims’ stories, and the defense stands on the weak argument that the ICC has no jurisdiction over the Philippines. The EJK victims’ families turned to the ICC because the so-called justice system in the Philippines fails them. Even in The Hague, Duterte is presumed innocent until proven guilty, but his victims were not given the same right.
Meanwhile, April 22 in the PH also marks the third day of impeachment hearings for VP Sara Duterte in the House.
Last week, whistleblower Ramil Madriaga explained the VP Sara’s office spent P125 million in confidential funds in less than 24 hours and disbursed them in cash to former Ombudsman Samuel Martires, Duterte’s military aides, and a Laguna province politician.
VP Sara’s misuse of public funds is a crime; she does not deserve a government position, and she should be disallowed from running for president in 2028. Sara’s glaring absence from her hearings demonstrates a cowardly attempt to evade responsibility.
The anti-corruption movement that started in 2025 warned all corrupt politicians: lahat ng sangkot dapat managot, and the Dutertes are no exception.
Justice for EJK victims and their families! Prosecute Rodrigo Duterte for his crimes against humanitiy. Impeach Sara Duterte!
All of them must be held to prosecuted. All of them must be brough to justice. Ikulong na yan, mga kurakot.
