Stop the attacks against progressive candidates & partylists! No to red-tagging!
Coffins filled with black propaganda targeting the Makabayan Coalition and progressive partylists were scattered throughout the country ahead of 2025 midterm elections.
Malaya Movement USA denounces the rampant red-tagging and attacks against the Makabayan senatorial candidates and Bayan Muna Partylist and other progressive partylists during this year’s midterm elections in the Philippines. Red-tagging was found to be the number one election campaign violation according to elections watchdog Vote Report PH as of April 30.
One of its most rabid perpetrators is Marcos’s fascist dogs at the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) who have been incessant in their attacks against progressive candidates, even red-tagging the Commission on Elections after it issued resolutions against anti-discrimination and fair campaigning.
The most recent and egregious violations have come in the last day, where coffins filled with graphic images and black propaganda attacking the Makabayan candidates were set up in different cities across the country. This coordinated attack was accompanied by the spread of fake news on social media claiming that partylist Bayan Muna was disqualified. These attacks attempt to dissuade voters from supporting genuinely progressive candidates and partylists, ones that we as Malaya Movement USA have endorsed.
It is clear that elections in the Philippines are rotten. 2022 showed us the fraudulence embedded within the electoral system, and this year, were seeing the disenfranchisement of close to a million overseas voters who have yet to create accounts to vote online, countless campaign violations, being a playing field for political dynasties, violence breaking out between political rivals, and these incidents of red-tagging.
