From the Philippines to the US, the 2025 midterm elections were plagued with discrepancies, inadequacies, lack of public information and outreach – an utter failure of the government to facilitate a genuinely democratic election. In the weeks leading up the the elections, initial reports from the International Observers Mission (IOM), facilitated by the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines’ (ICHRP), were sounding the alarm on cases of red-tagging and disinformation, violence and killings amidst the campaign, disenfranchisement, vote buying,  among other issues.

Stop the attacks against progressive candidates & partylists! No to red-tagging!

Coffins filled with black propaganda targeting the Makabayan Coalition and progressive partylists were scattered throughout the country ahead of 2025 midterm elections.

Malaya Movement USA denounces the rampant red-tagging and attacks against the Makabayan senatorial candidates and Bayan Muna Partylist and other progressive partylists during this year’s midterm elections in the Philippines. Red-tagging was found to be the number one election campaign violation according to elections watchdog Vote Report PH as of April 30.

Drop the charges against the Makabayan Coalition and those unjustly charged under BP 880! 

Malaya Movement USA condemns the bogus and unjust trumped-up charges against the Makabayan senatorial candidates and other community leaders filed on January 9 in Manila. The 13 are the most recent in a slew of charges using Batas Pambansa 880 (BP 880) or the “Public Assembly Act of 1985” as pretense for political repression, citing their participation during the November 30 Bonifacio Day mobilizations as being in violation of the Marcos Sr. era law.
