Hindi Marcos, Hindi Duterte! Lahat ng sangkot kailangan managot
Corruption kills in the Philippines. This year alone, corruption has led to the deaths of hundreds of people, the displacement of millions, and the destruction of infrastructure and agriculture.
Corruption is embedded in Philippine society and the people are clamoring to change that.
At the head are two most corrupt and violent political dynasties our country has ever seen: the Marcoses and Dutertes. On top of his family’s ill-gotten and stolen wealth from Marcos Sr.’s martial law, Marcos Jr. has recently been implicated in 100 billion pesos of insertions for kickbacks by former lawmaker Zaldy Co. Marcos Jr. has denied these allegations, but top officials from his cabinet are resigning left and right, surely being made to take the blame.
Meanwhile, the Dutertes are positioning themselves as the alternative to this chaos but remember: while Sara was not removed from office, she was officially impeached for graft and corruption, misuse of public funds in February of this year. It is thanks to corruption and manipulation that they were able to halt the impeachment proceedings.
Both Marcos Jr. and Sara are clearly not fit for office. It is time for them to step down and be held accountable for their crimes against the Filipino people. The alternative needs to be in the interest of the people, led by the people and without the influence of political dynasties.
September 21 showed us that people are ready to hold these corrupt officials accountable. Over 200,000 people across the country and world demanded, from top to bottom, everyone must be jailed.
“Ikulong mga kurakot!”
Millions more need to take to the streets though, and while we know People Power I and II ousted corrupt presidents before but they didn’t result in systemic change. This time, everyone needs to be held to account. Lahat ng sangkot kailangan managot
We call on all Malaya USA members and concerned Filipinos in the US to mobilize this November 30, a historic day in Philippine history (Andres Bonifacio Day). Let it echo through the streets across the United States: Justice and accountability now! Hindi Marcos, Hindi Duterte - resign now! Jail the corrupt! Uproot the rotten system and fight for genuine democracy in the Philippines!
