We welcome the ICC arrest warrant for former PNP Chief and current Senator Bato Dela Rosa for his crimes in Duterte’s drug war. The Philippine government must immediately facilitate Bato’s arrest and transfer to the Hague where he must face consequences as chief architect of Duterte’s drug war.

As more than 200,000 people flooded the streets in the Philippines, Filipinos overseas took part in the widespread protest against corruption, impunity and fascism, including Malaya Movement USA chapters across the United States on the 53rd anniversary of Marcos Sr.’s declaration of Martial Law.

The lavish lifestyles of corrupt public officials in the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the heads of construction companies they’ve colluded with, are paid for in dozens to hundreds of Filipino lives each year. But the biggest and most guilty politician in the Philippines is the one pretending to lead this publicity crusade against corruption - President Bongbong Marcos Jr. (BBM) himself.

The International Criminal Court’s indefinite postponement of Duterte's confirmation hearing is a disgrace. Duterte has been given more grace and leeway than was ever provided to his 30,000+ drug war victims and the thousands more in his all out war against activists and human rights defenders.

Since the start of Rodrigo Duterte’s presidential term in 2016 and his so-called “war on drugs”, blatant unmasked fascism has been the norm for the Filipino people.

This fascism is aided by the policies he put in place like instituting the NTF-ELCAC, an agency that has garnered international outrage for baselessly red-tagging human rights defenders, community organizers, and activists and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) of 2020, which erodes legal protections for the Filipino People. Duterte’s barbarous policies extend into the present day under Marcos Jr.’s administration.
