End Impunity! Justice for Ali Macalintal!

Malaya Movement USA condemns in the strongest terms the killing of human rights defender,  former journalist and radio broadcaster, and trans activist Ali Macalintal. No matter how hard Marcos Jr. tries to distance himself from Rodrigo Duterte, it is clear that  impunity continues under his administration.

According to human rights group Karapatan, as of March 2025, there have been 124 extrajudicial killings, 261 illegal or arbitrary arrests, 15 enforced disappearances, and 563 forced or fake surrenders under Marcos Jr. These numbers have surely climbed since then and should be a signal to all that Marcos Jr.’s brand of fascism is far less visible but equally as sinister as his dictator predecessor.

The extrajudicial killing of Macalintal happened just days after UN Special Rapporter on Press Freedom Irene Khan reiterated her recommendation to dismantle the Duterte era red-tagging institution, the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). Macalintal experienced constant state harassment and surveillance herself, with state forces also questioning her friends and family about her whereabouts.

We demand an immediate investigation into Macalintal’s killing and accountability for the killers. We echo the UN Special Rapporteur:to abolish the NTF-ELCAC! Do away with the Duterte era Anti-Terror Law and end impunity!

Justice for Ali Macalintal!
Abolish the NTF-ELCAC!
Junk the Anti-Terror Law!
End impunity!
