A statement from our Malaya Tacoma chapter on the killing of Kai Sorem

Malaya Tacoma strongly condemns the blatant violations of international humanitarian law conducted by the US-Backed Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Negros Occidental on April 19-20, 2026. For 12 hours straight, they carried out an operation of strafing that killed 19 people and displaced 653 residents.

Beloved Filipino American Kai Dana Rene Sorem was among the 19 who lost their lives in the massacre.

Marcos Jr. announced his bid for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council (UNSC) during his speech at United Nations in September 2022 at the 77th UN General Assembly.

Marcos Jr. spent P20 million during his March 2026 visit to the UN to campaign for the seat. The vote will take place in New York on June 3rd.

Malaya Movement USA mourns the sudden loss of long-time activist and beloved friend, Lyle Prijoles.

We vehemently condemn the fascist state violence that took the life of Lyle along with 18 others in what can only be called a senseless massacre carried out by the Philippine military in Toboso, Negros.

Malaya Movement USA is disgusted by the NTF-ELCAC's recent statement that is shamelessly posturing to care about the "safety" of Fil-Am Chantal Anicoche, who is illegally detained by the 2nd Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

It is outrageous that this very same government body that has sown nationwide terror and systematized red-tagging and attacks on human rights advocates and activists has the gall to claim that it is "committed to uphold human rights, due process, and transparency" when it has done nothing but the complete opposite.

Malaya Movement USA condemns in the strongest terms the killing of human rights defender,  former journalist and radio broadcaster, and trans activist Ali Macalintal. No matter how hard Marcos Jr. tries to distance himself from Rodrigo Duterte, it is clear that  impunity continues under his administration.

To Filipinos in the US, be alert of known criminal violators of human rights, Jeffrey Celiz and Royina Garma, who in this moment are trying to escape accountability in the Philippines by seeking refuge in the US. Celiz is applying for political asylum in Canada.
