Taksil sa bayan, Marcos singilin! No UN platform for fascists!

“If this is it, so be it. I can die”

Last week, Malaya Movement chapters across the country commemorated the 40th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power that toppled fascist dictator, Ferdinand Marcos Sr. Listen to Nonoy’s experience as a trade union organizer under Marcos Sr’s brutal martial law. Like thousands of other civilian activists, Nonoy was detained and tortured by government forces.

While Nonoy recounts a time from decades ago, under current president Bongbong Marcos, the same policy of fascist repression persists. His US-backed counterinsurgency program the National Action Plan for Unity, Peace & Development deploy similar vicious tactics to suppress the people’s movement for change.

This week, BBM is set to attend the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women & continue his bid for the Philippines to secure a nonpermanent seat in the UN Security Council. BBM has no business speaking on women’s issues when women in the Philippines & overseas bear the brunt of his economic & political failures.

Under BBM’s presidency, there were 136 women political prisoners, instances torture of activists like Jonila Castro & Jhed Tamano, & extrajudicial killings of leaders like peasant activist Dedeng Jimenez. Women journalists like Frenchie Mae Cumpio & Marielle Domequil have also been wrongfully convicted on trumped up “terrorist financing” charges - a dangerous weapon used to criminalize human rights defenders.

There are also the cases of Filipino migrant women who’ve been subjected to fascist attacks by the Trump administration and BBM has basically co-signed off on, like the medical violence & family separation experienced by Malaya Georgia member Alma Bowman and 72 year old caregiver mother Rebecca Pinyard who was disappeared for 2 days before being deported back to the Philippines. Marcos and his cronies like Amb. Romualdez and DFA secretary Lazaro have dismissed the violence experienced by our kababayan.

This is the second time BBM has taken the UN stage to spew false narratives about the state of Philippine development. Join us across the country  and in New York City as we mobilize to expose Marcos as the corrupt war criminal and traitor that he is.
