Historical Uses of Disinformation in the Philippines as Weapons of Authoritarian Rule and Empire
The Spanish-American War, which resulted in U.S. colonial relationships with Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines via annexation, is referred to as the “first media war” in some quarters and was also a watershed moment in the history of mis- and disinformation.
Epitomizing what came to be known as “yellow journalism,” the sensationalist reporting of U.S. newspapers owned by rival publishers Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst rose to a fever pitch as their respective outlets fought for market share and oftentimes played fast and loose with the facts on the ground in their coverage of Cuba’s struggle for independence from Spain.
Malaya Movement USA Condemns the harassment of peasant farmers in Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental!
Why the urgent demand to release Chantal from AFP custody is critical.
NTF-ELCAC lies about Chantal Anicoche
Malaya Movement USA is disgusted by the NTF-ELCAC's recent statement that is shamelessly posturing to care about the "safety" of Fil-Am Chantal Anicoche, who is illegally detained by the 2nd Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
It is outrageous that this very same government body that has sown nationwide terror and systematized red-tagging and attacks on human rights advocates and activists has the gall to claim that it is "committed to uphold human rights, due process, and transparency" when it has done nothing but the complete opposite.
Arrest the thieves not protestors!
As more than 200,000 people flooded the streets in the Philippines, Filipinos overseas took part in the widespread protest against corruption, impunity and fascism, including Malaya Movement USA chapters across the United States on the 53rd anniversary of Marcos Sr.’s declaration of Martial Law.
Remembering Victims of Fascism and Defenders of Human Rights in the Philippines
Since the start of Rodrigo Duterte’s presidential term in 2016 and his so-called “war on drugs”, blatant unmasked fascism has been the norm for the Filipino people.
This fascism is aided by the policies he put in place like instituting the NTF-ELCAC, an agency that has garnered international outrage for baselessly red-tagging human rights defenders, community organizers, and activists and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) of 2020, which erodes legal protections for the Filipino People. Duterte’s barbarous policies extend into the present day under Marcos Jr.’s administration.
Tama na! Sobra Na! IMPEACH SARA Now!
IMPEACH SARA! Vice President Sara Duterte’s unhinged tirades shows she is unfit for office. Much like her tyrant father, she is undeserving of one of the highest seats of power in the Philippines. Malaya Movement USA echoes the people’s organizations in the Philippines calling for her impeachment.
It is critical that both Sara and Rodrigo Duterte are held accountable for their crimes. It is equally as critical that Marcos Jr. should be held accountable for his crimes against the Filipino people.
Impeach Sara! Duterte, Ikulong! Marcos Jr. singilin!
