State of the Nation: Years of unkept promises, lies, human rights violations, war crimes, and disappointment for the Filipino people

Marcos and Duterte have made the lives of Filipinos worse. As the President and Vice President, they've overseen the murder of hundreds, allowed for the plunder of our lands, and have stolen our money.

And they keep lying about it.

Former Sen. Bato Dela Rosa is literally running away from accountability, making a game out of his arrest. The Philippine government must surrender him immediately to the ICC and not delay any further. His crimes as the PNP chief at the height of the drug war speak for themselves – blood is on his hands, and the victims and their loved ones deserve swift justice.

Calling a valid impeachment process a "distraction" speaks volumes about BBM's respect for actual democracy. It's like deja vu from Sara's impeachment last year. These separate impeachment attempts against the president and the vice president show a clear divide in Congress: the House of Reps behind Marcos while Sara maintains strong support in the Senate and the Supreme Court - all unwilling and incapable of actually upholding democracy.

When Marcos Jr. launched the flood control investigations in July 2025, we knew it wouldn't take long before he'd be implicated too. He promised accountability and swift arrests but he failed to deliver. His popularity and trust ratings are tanking. And now he’s apparently seeking medical attention for “discomfort”.

Malaya USA joins Filipinos across the U.S. and around the world in condemning today’s move of the Philippine Senate to “archive” the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte. This Senate decision effectively kills the impeachment trial and ignores the Filipino people’s widespread demand to hold her accountable for charges of massive corruption of public funds and abuse of her office. Legal loopholes and procedural technicalities have been abused by the majority pro-Duterte Senate to protect the interests of the oligarchic political dynasties.

“The Supreme Court has betrayed the Filipino people. Filipinos want Sara to go on trial and be held accountable for corruption, for betrayal of public trust and yet our supposed political leaders, these majority Duterte appointed Supreme Court Justices, have exposed themselves as equally corrupt and disgraceful. Our democracy has been disregarded by the very people who are meant to protect it. Shame.”
